The Key To Good Health | YOUR GUT

Yes today we are talking all about the glamorous topic of poo! Your toilet habits can have a huge impact on your health and you may not even realise it.

Think of it like this. We eat food, the food gets digested and then we need to dispose of it. We intake at least 3 meals a day so how many times should we be doing to the toilet daily? If your bowels are in optimum health then you should be going to the toilet at least twice a day. Now ask yourself how many times do you go a day?

If your answer is less that 2 daily then it means you are constipated! This means you are digesting food and instead of getting rid of the waste it is being backed up inside of you which leads to a build up of toxins. In Ayurveda we call this Ama. This Ama floating around in your body needs to come out somehow which can be in many forms most commonly acne.

If you suffer from any skin rashes or skin disorders I highly recommend looking into your bowel movements and gut health. Your digestion is a big game changer when it comes to your over all health. We should be able to eat a meal and for it to be digested and disposed of easily.

Here are some tips to get your bowels going!

This simple step makes a HUGE difference. I really notice in myself if I do not drink enough water. You need liquid to keep things hydrated and lubricated. If you are having trouble you need to be drinking at least 2Litres a day minimum I would try and aim for 3 Litres if you can!

2) EAT EASILY DIGESTIBLE FOOD. If you want to sort out your digestive system you should try and feed yourself food which is easy to digest so your body does not have to work so hard. I recommend switching to a clean vegetarian diet for a few days until your body functions are working well. Foods such as animal products, simple carbs, processed food and anything of the sort is hard for our body to break down. Try switching to complexed carbs such as brown rice and try and have softer foods such as soups and stews. Eat lots of vegetables and try to avoid too many beans as some people find they can cause constipation.

3) DON'T GET HOOKED ON LAXATIVES. I know the easy option is to take a laxative but this is just a quick fix and it will not help you in the long run. Laxatives can also be habit forming and that is not a situation you want to be in. My favourite natural laxative is Tripala. I suggest start with 1 teaspoon before bed and see how your body reacts. If you do not go to the toilet then take a higher dose the next night, likewise if you go to the toilet too much then take less! Tripala is an amazing laxative and it is not habit forming! It is also great for your vision as well as many other health benefits!

4) DON'T EAT TOO LATE. Try not to eat 2 hours before you go to bed. You need to give your body time to digest your dinner and you do not want to be lying in bed with a full stomach. Your body is working hard enough as it is!

5) DESTRESS. This is a huge factor! I always read this tip and pushed it to the side but I have found this is a key factor! Think of it like this when we are stressed or feeling a lot of emotion we tend to hold everything inside and this can be literally! Holding things in means our muscles tense up and nothing is free flowing. Try some relaxation techniques such as meditation or yoga. If that is not your kind of thing then even going for a walk or writing in a journal can help tremendously. Another way to relax is read before you go to sleep at night it is great for distracting your mind. Try and let go and it should help you go!

Get those bowels moving! haha you will feel amazing I am certain on it!
